I was reflecting this morning on the value of Security.
My parents went from opulent wealth to damn-near poverty in a short-time because of a bad business deal and no back-up plan. Consequently, security is important to me – I’ve always had a “plan B”, just in-case.
But increasingly, I realise that by risking nothing we actually risk even more… What awesome experiences that life is made of do we miss by not taking bold (calculated) risks?
So my understanding of security has changed:
I believe that the only true security comes in the form of excellence. True security, excellence, isn’t as perishable as material wealth. Which is why the best investment is Education, Experience, True Friendship and a life of Honour… no one can take that away from you, and you can use these tools to build a material empire too (and build it again if your risk-taking doesn’t pay off)!
