Doug Rushkoff once stated that successful content is that which gives people an excuse to talk to each other. This idea of Social Currency is fundamental to the success of your blog, or your latest online promotion.
The Caffeinespot campaign is a superb illustration of this.

Hundreds of people check in on the blog every day, not because of the superb writing or pretty pictures, but because it is worth talking about - and in fact, we have incentivised them to talk about it: mention Caffeine in your blog and you get a free muffin and coffee.

Remember: Markets are conversations. People are looking for reasons to talk with each other. If your blog (or business!) can provide a reason for people to talk with each other, then you're likely to do very well.
