For everyone who is speaking at upcoming BarCamps, Geek Dinners, Toastmasters and more… An observation from Woodrow Wilson:
“If IÂ am to speak ten minutes, I need a week for preparation; of fifteen minutes, three days; if half an hour, two days; if an hour, I am ready now“
A well prepared presentation shows respect for your audience and their time. It also helps calm your nerves.

A geek is a person who is fascinated, perhaps obsessively, by obscure or very specific areas of knowledge and imagination, usually electronic or virtual in nature. Geek may not always have the same meaning as the term nerd.
If this describes you, then head on over to the Stormhoek Jozi Geek Dinner on 5 October for an evening with likeminded people, good wine, and stimulating talks. I hear that there’s a couple of nice surprises planned too;)

The Cape Town event was enjoyable and inspirational. I highly recommend the experience – most especially considering the people I see are attending!
Attendance is free… sign up on the Wiki, or email Mike to attend.

A great way to generate more potential business (leads) is to provide thought leading content. That way, you catch people earlier in their buy-cycle when they are most susceptable to influence.Blogs, newsletters and whitepapers are great for this purpose.
I read a report that showed (among other things) that waaay more business people would consume your company’s analyst reports and whitepapers if they were delivered in audio form (podcasts).
Just remember to keep it interesting, thought provoking and educational cos business people get bored too. Oh, and don’t try sell anything – that’s only relevant at a later stages of the buying process.

Leadership is taking responsibility for our own actions, thoughts and strategy.
It’s dangerous and lazy to hand this power over to someone else, yet this is what most of us do. You don’t have to be the boss to be a leader.
The essence of leadership is vision, knowing the desired destination and leading yourself and your company there.
It requires discipline. Most importantly though, it requires conscientious decision-making which stems from a plan. Have goals. Know your values and what you stand for.
Great Leaders inspire leadership qualities in those that they lead, so in essence, leadership is viral.
Isn’t that what we Marketers crave so much?
Leadership is getting people to do what you want because THEY want to. It requires compassion, empathy and understanding on your part (also known as Market Research!).
Yes, this is a Marketing blog, and I am thinking about this in terms of marketing. The difference between an outstanding Marketer and an average one is the sparkling gem called Leadership.
